EVENING CONSULTATION: THE FIRST FEMALE DOCTORS
(In Danish) 135 years ago, Nielsine Nielsen finished as the first female physician in Denmark. Her educational path was not easy, but was the beginning of women’s entry into the medical profession.
This evening consultation will focus on Denmark’s first female doctors. We begin the evening with the story of Nielsine Nielsen, who as the first woman made up with the 1800 figures ‘ norms and realized her desire to become a doctor. Historian Dorthe Chakravarty and journalist Sarah von Essen will talk about Nielsine Nielsen’s way through the medical studies, where she overcame many obstacles. Hereafter the historian Louise Ludvigsen will talk about the first generations of female physicians and the challenges they would have to overcome professionally and privately.
