Introducing concepts of ‘our humans’

Bring your own human. This was the instruction (and name) for our workshop in September 2019. It is a simple, short and sophisticated instruction. As soon as you start thinking more about what to do, several questions quickly loom over you. Are you going to bring a fully-grown human or a human that just started walking on its own? Will you bring an entire human or maybe just a microbe on its pinky finger? Maybe you would rather like to convey a feeling of being human or let your audience become aware of the fact that they are humans experiencing right now.

Bacterial microbiome mapping

The motivation for a microbiome targeting diet

I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Medical Museion and Department of Public Health, University of Copenhagen, since October 2019. The project I will be working on examines motivations to and contexts for dietary orientations of people who, for different reasons, have chosen to adhere to a diet specifically targeting the gut microbiome.

Body Time: The rhythms that make us human

If I told you that I studied circadian rhythms, it probably wouldn’t mean very much to you. What about ‘chronobiology’? The biology part is easy enough, the study of living things, but what about ‘chrono’? These scientific names obscure a simple fact about being human that most of us take for granted – that our daily lives are governed by time.

Writing from the Gut – writing workshop

Are our thoughts and feelings really our own? Take part in a creative writing course at Medical Museion to explore how the written word might engage with ‘gut thinking’. Recent research into the human microbiome suggests that the trillions of microbes that inhabit our guts are not just crucial for digestion – they may also […]

GREEN UNICORNS – BY THOMAS FEUERSTEIN

Green Unicorns – by Thomas Feuerstein

The extremely versatile artist Thomas Feuerstein is currently exhibiting his art installations at Museion. An exhibition where the color green plays a dominant role.
