The life and behaviour of the infectious agent are often at the centre of scientific research on infectious disease. Currently, the structure and cycle of SARS-CoV2, the covid-19 virus, is being studied by a host of scientists attempting to locate possible sites of interference and manipulation. To study this, we must capture the agent.

The epidemic chaos, of the body, of other bodies, and of national borders, reminds us – among other things – that we are mortal, perishable. We are material bodies that are subject to the whims of nature and rely on very real structures to carry out our lives.

One of the driving questions for the Microbes on the Mind project (click here) is how we can represent a more-than-human body; how we can depict, write, feel, perhaps even hear and smell ourselves as partly microbial.
