Your heart, brain and lungs are all organs. But did you know that the fat in your body is an organ too? And just like all your other organs, fat tissue is essential to your health. In fact, humans simply cannot live without fat.

Your body fat and brain communicate with each other through hormones that tell your body when you’re hungry and when you’re full. Fat helps your body absorb vitamins, store energy and keep warm. Fat tissue also works with your immune system to regulate how your body fights infections. These are all vital functions. Yet fat is surrounded by conflicting health messages, prejudices and ideals. The conversation often focuses on whether a body has too much or too little fat. But perhaps a more important question is: how is our fat actually doing?

The exhibition Fabulous Fat! was created together with four school classes. Through a series of workshops, the students explored, shaped and shared new ways of thinking about fat. Come and discover their take on our amazing body fat.

The exhibition grew out of the KrObjekt project, which aims to create an engaging and informative space where children and young people can explore the body and wellbeing from different perspectives. The project has taken shape as a physical learning space and a new exhibition at the Medical Museion.

The vision is to encourage dialogue and reflection, helping to broaden the way children and young people think about their bodies. Through KrObjekt, we hope to contribute to greater acceptance of our own and other people’s bodies regardless of weight.

KrObjekt is a collaboration between the The Danish National Center for Obesity (NCFO) and the Medical Museion.
