STOFSK(R)IFTER – et katalog om kunstneren Thomas Feuerstein.

Den anerkendte østrigske biokunstner Thomas Feuerstein beskæftiger sig med de komplekse stofskifteprocesser, der kendetegner alt levende:  Nogle af hans skulpturer er befolket af levende alger, som han høster og omdanner til alkohol og maling; andre indeholder bakterier, der omdanner papir til sukker, som fodres til levende hjerneceller i en bioreaktor. Thomas Feuerstein udstillede en række af sine levende skulpturer på Medicinsk Museion i 2018. Kataloget her tager sit udgangspunkt i denne udstilling.

STOFSK(R)IFTER er en samling af essays om Feuersteins kunstneriske virke. De originale artikelbidrag i kataloget undersøger de levende og flertydige værker via filosofisk spekulation og historisk kontekst. Teksterne er suppleret af smukke fotografier af Feuersteins metabolisme-maskiner.

METABOLIC MACHINES – exhibition catalogue about the artist Thomas Feuerstein.

The prominent Austrian bio-artist Thomas Feuerstein works with the complicated transformations of matter that all living things are involved in: Some of his sculptures contain living algae which is turned into alcohol and paint; others hold bacteria which turn paper into sugar that then feeds living brain cells in a bioreactor. Thomas Feuerstein exhibited a curated selection of his living sculptures at Medical Museion in 2018. This catalogue is based on this exhibition.

The catalogue is a collection of essays about Feuerstein’s artistic practice, and an essential overview of his work. The essays examine Feuerstein’s messy and rich works, unfolding them through philosophical speculation and historical context. The texts are accompanied by some stunning photographs of the artworks.
