Thomas Söderqvist Wellcome Library og otte andre London-biblioteker har igennem fem år diskuteret problemet med indsamling og bevaring af den medicinhistoriske kulturarv på papir, dvs. materiale i biblioteker og arkiver. Initiativet blev taget med konferencen “A Healthy Heritage: Collecting for the future of medical history” i 1999 som resulterede i et samarbejdeprojekt som skulle etablere retningslinjer for bevaring af trykt dokumentation om biomedicin. Projektet “Mapping medicine: collaborative collection management for biomedical resources” (se http://library.wellcome.ac.uk/node226.html) har tre mål:
• To map partner collection strengths
• To examine partner’s retention, disposal and access policies and the factors affecting them
• To develop a methodology for collaborative collection management.
Hvor mange af disse erfaringer kan appliceres på andre medier for representation af biomedicin, fx. indsamling og bevaring af billeder og genstande?
